Once upon a time series, 2025

I have been drawing fairy-tale creatures for quite some time now, and I think I will continue in this mythical vein this year (except for the main series at Designblok, but more on that in the fall). Now I am presenting figures inspired by the classics of the genre and their characters, which we all know intimately.

I open Václav Tille’s books, published under the pseudonym Václav Říha, and embark on rereading his stories such as Rýbrcoul, Rajnold-Divosyn, Čertova baba… Then I have a bad feeling that I should have reached for the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm first, who elevated fairy tales to the subject of serious scientific research. Then it occurs to me: No, a woman should be first. Božena Němcová and her characters from the fairy tales O Slunečníku, Měsíčníku a Větrníku (The Sun, the Moon, and the Wind), Honza, and my favorite character, Prince Bajaja.
