Illustrator and director Filip Pošivač, last year’s Czech Lion winner for the animated film Tonda, Slávka a kouzelné světlo (Tonda, Slávka and the Magic Light, 2023), created an original illustration for Tititi with a personal touch – he added me to it with a smile as one of the characters.

Filip is also the author of an exceptional three-volume edition of Andersen’s fairy tales with almost a hundred large-format illustrations, in which he combines watercolors, printed paper, fabrics, and bird feathers, paying tribute to Andersen’s passion for collages and cutouts. For his work, he is one of the Czech winners of the prestigious international IBBY award for children’s illustration.

How are Tititi figurines made?

Tititi is a brand founded in 2019 by Tereza Talichová, which has since managed to establish itself in the field of contemporary Czech design for children. It focuses on the author’s painted wooden figurines, personifying in an individual form a number of different types of people, artists or dramatic characters from theatrical or literary works, viewed through a playful lens and with attention to detail.

Each of the figures is first created by turning the body of the figurine from wood (spruce, oak, linden). Except for exceptions, it is a symmetrical, vertical shape, individualized according to the designed profile (silhouette) and then finished with an original painting
